About Us

Pulpally is a mid-sized town in Wayanad District of Kerala, India. Geographically a Village in Sultan Battery Taluk and a "Grama Panchayath" under local self governance system. It is about 24 km from Sultan Battery, and is almost surrounded by forest. This place is famous for its Sita Devi temple which is one of the few in India devoted for Sita Devi. The icons of Lava and Kusa, children of Sita, are also installed here. It is believed that Sita Devi went into earth here. This place and the surrounding areas are believed to be the key places in the Hindu epic Ramayana. The temple festival which is celebrated annually in the month of January is famous and is attracts people from various parts of Wayanad. The famous "kuruva island" is 5 km away from pulpally town. "Pulpally" was also known as "KARUMAM" till 1980s. About 7 km from Pulpally is the place of death of Pazhassi Raja who led the famous Pazhassi Revolt against the East India Company during the 18th century and was killed on 30 November 1805. Pulpally is sharing the border with Karnataka, it's just 10 km away from the town. If the Karnataka and Kerala Governments works together for a Bridge between the Kabani River, it will be the shortest way to Mysore from Kerala. Pulpally Grama Panchayath is in the northern part of Panamaram Block (formerly included in Sulthan bathery block) in Sulthan Bathery Taluk of Wayanad District in Kerala State, which is the continuation of the great Mysore plateau Pulpally panchayath is bounded on north by Mullankolly Panchayath, on south by Poothadi and Panamaram Panchayaths, east by Sulthan Bathery panchayath and west by Mananthavadi and Thirunelli Panchayaths. It falls in the survey of india Topo sheet No. 58 A /1 and falls roughly between longitude 760 04’33” and 760 13’17” and north latitude 110 51’00” and 110 45’04”. The panchayath is divided into 20 wards for administrative purpose. The panchayath head quarters is in pulpally. Pulpally panchayath comes under Sulthan Bathery assembly constituency and Wayanad parliament constituency. All habitations in the panchayath are well connected with road networks. The geographical area of the panchayath is 80.90 square kilometers with a population 35,153 (2001 census). The male population is 16412 and female population is 18741. Among this, the SC population is 548 and ST population is 6781. In general, the population is distributed all over the panchayath area expect in the forest and estate land

Name of Scheme: Jalanidhi Bulk water supply scheme Pulpally

The scheme implemented by KRWSA Jalanidhi (fund aided by world bank) on June 2017.Even though the scheme was intended for feeding the entire Gramapanchayath , but small portion is getting benefitted from the scheme .The remaining people is experiencing acute scarcity of drinking water. As per the MOU the scheme purchase 1.5MLD drinking water from KWA by bulk meter system. Currently the scheme is benefitting 2756 HH ,which includes 904 nos of tribal beneficiaries. The total length of distribution system is 249km which varies from 300 mm pvc to 20mm pvc pipes. Operation and maintenance is done by beneficiary committee (SLEC-SCHEME LEVEL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE) under the monitoring of Gramapanchayath .

Surface Water

Kabani river, is the major river, which flow along the Western and Northwestern boundary of the Pulpally panchayath. Kabani river can be reliable water source for implementing drinking water schemes in Pulpally panchayath. Central and western parts of the panchayath are drained by Manikkadu puzha. Kadaman thodu also supplement to the water resources of the Pulpally panchayath. Both Manikkadu puzha and Kadaman thodu are Perinnial. Drinking water supply schemes can be implemented by using these Perinnial surface water source.

Landscape

Pulpally is the part of the Western Ghat consisting of hills, steeps and plains. Kalluvayal is the highest area which is about 943 meters above the Sea level
